Six Smart Women Discussing Doctor Who

This week we all just needed a quiet conversation about what is bringing us comfort and grounding us through the pandemic. We cover both Doctor Who and non-Doctor Who comforts. There’s rather a lot of talk about canning.

What is keeping you going through all this? Drop us a tweet or let us know in the comments!

Extra-special thanks to this week’s guest editor, Steven Schapansky of Castria!

My own grounding strategies have been similar to what you talked about on the podcast. Routine is really really good for me; I keep track of what day it is through podcast release schedules, Tuesday and Thursday are exercise days (Zombies Run has at-home workouts with really satisfying metafictional solidarity), Friday is big-cooking-project day (Lynne I am so much on the SK train with you), and Mondays are for picking a Doctor Who episode to watch over Zoom with a friend. (I really wish I had more of the Matt Smith-era DVDs, I have series 7, but that one is so very fraught)

Thanks Verities, for having an honest and open conversation about what the last few months have been like for you, be well. ❤

  2. Routine is a key thing for me. I’m a school teacher but even though I’m working from home I try and stick to the school routine. My partner is self isolating in Edinburgh and I’m in Glasgow so Zoom has been a godsend.

Re watching Dr Who, baking scones and Yoga are keeping me chilled and sane, that along with Verity podcasts. Peter Capaldi has become my favourite Dr as a result of my rewatching.

I appreciate Verity very much and this episode in particular. You all spoke of how you are coping and your individual situations which was very helpful to me. Everyone is suffering in their own special way haha. I am currently in the working from home group. One of the things that is helping me is crocheting. I just finished a Doctor Who graphgan for my niece and I am currently working on another (I am REALLY into the graphgan right now) of sea creatures for another niece. I also got myself a birthday present of Britbox and am watching all of the available episodes of Classic Doctor Who. I am up to the Pertwee episodes and it is so exciting to see these in the proper order. I am going to plug Pluto Television (it’s a free app) because they have an entire channel dedicated to Classic Doctor Who- if you don’t mind that they don’t play in any particular order – they do group the stories so that isn’t an issue. Looking forward to hearing your lovely voices again. Take care of yourselves!
