  1. Great points. I read Doctor Who Magazine at the time. IIRC this episode ranked last in the season survey. I think the reason it ranked last was because it was fantastic season with Snakedance (ranked number 1), Mawdryn Undead (not sure but I think 2), and Enlightenment (not sure).

I had nothing against Turlough, but I felt he was sidelined when he was not a focus in the story (Mawdryn Undead, Enlightenment, and Planet of Fire). I wonder if Eric Saward did not know what to do with him.

    • Hi Juan. I agree Turlough was often sidelined (let us never forget how he and Tegan spent most of Terminus trapped in a vent). Much though I have come to appreciate Tegan more in recent years, I think the combo of those two was tiresome and both characters are better off around others. I like a lot of Turlough’s scenes in Frontios and even in Five Doctors.

You’re probably right about Eric Saward!

I watched this story for the first time this week, and I didn’t notice that Sir Gilles was played by Anthony Ainley – even though I already knew the Master was the villain of this story!
