It’s an audio-based Extra! this week! Join Deb, Erika, and Liz as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first televised appearance of the 8th Doctor by talking about his first audio appearance! That’s right, it’s Storm Warning. And because we love Big Finish so much, we digress a LOT and talk about many other Big Finish stories we love–whether they include 8 or not. When it comes to DW audios, it’s near-impossible to keep us on track, and we’re A-OK with that!
Have you heard Storm Warning? If so, what do you think of it? And do you think it’s a good starting place for a new BF listener? Let us know in the comments!
…except when you do. Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we struggle to remember a bunch of Doctor Who firsts. We talk tat, books, Big Finish, and more! That “more” includes fanworks, so I’m including this for Liz once again:
So what were your firsts in these categories? And what other firsts would you like to hear about? Let us know in the comments!
It’s giveaway time again! This time it’s a download version of the new Torchwood audio from Big Finish, One Rule. It features Yvonne Hartman, and we have it on good authority that this is great story!
To enter, leave a comment on this very post! Doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Just say “Hiya!” NOTE: You must have (or create) a Big Finish account to claim the prize. Good news, it’s free to create an account!
And remember, if you’re a Verity! patron, you’re entered automatically! (So please don’t comment because that would be cheating.)
Good luck everyone, and many thanks to Big Finish for providing this fab prize!
ETA: Congratulations to listener Avril, who won the drawing! We’ll contact you via email.
It’s always a party when we have all six Verities in the house! Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, Liz, Lynne, and Tansy as we squee and muse and generally chat about series 9. It’s tons of fun and less chaotic than you might expect. And as always, we veer into thinky territory as we discuss whether this season really is the most feminist of new Who (or whether it’s really feminist at all). There’s lots to cover, and we enjoy the heck out of covering it.
What did you think of series 9? Where do you weigh in on the question of this series’ feminism? What do you think of Clara’s arc? The hybrid (or lack thereof)? Let us know in the comments!
For this week’s Extra! we had the opportunity to talk to the delightful Sophie Aldred, and we couldn’t make you wait for that–especially because her Kickstarter for Strangeness in Space still has a few days to go. Do check it out if you’re a fan of sci-fi, comedy, and/or audio goodness! She chats to Deb about that fantastic project, her time as Ace (both on screen and in Big Finish), and what it’s like attending conventions and interacting with fans. It’s a wonderful conversation, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have!
That’s right. We’re pretty excited about this week’s companion topic. Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about the most educated companions–the academics, the doctors, the scientists, and more. What is it about them that makes them appealing? Is there anything that can be off-putting to audiences? Does Romana count? The answer to that last one is debated hotly (but laughingly)!
What do you think of the brainier companions? Do you see yourself in them? Or do you seem them being too full of their own capabilities? Let us know in the comments!
For the second year running, the kind folks at Chicago TARDIS let us do our thing in front of a live audience of Doctor Who fans. Such fun! Join Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we chat about the con and then talk about topics suggested by the audience!
Apologies for the possibly-incomplete show notes this time around. I was on stage and didn’t take my usual copious notes. If we mention something there’s no link for, leave a comment (or tweet us) and we’ll hook you up with some more info!
