That’s right, we’re talking about the TARDIS again! We discussed her villainous tendencies with Lynne and Tansy last year. Now, join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Liz as we fold the TARDIS into our Year of Companions. We discuss the evolution of the TARDIS on-screen and how the Doctor’s treatment of her varies by actor and era.
What’s your favorite Doctor-TARDIS pairing? Do you have a favorite (least favorite?) moment between the Doctor and his “wife”? How do you feel about the blatant personification of the TARDIS in the new series? Let us know in the comments!
This week we forget an exciting merch-related announcement at the top of the show, so be sure to listen until the very end! Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Tansy as we talk about companions who take on the role of the Doctor. Some do it more effectively than others. Some take to it right away, while most develop the ability after spending more time with the Doctor. And some companions who seem very un-Doctorey indeed have their moments too.
Which are your favorite Doctorish companions? Any moments that stand out to you? Let us know in the comments!
This week we bring you episode 78–really! Pay no attention to Deb’s introduction. Erika isn’t the only one who makes mistakes! Join Deb, Erika, Liz, and Lynne as we talk about companion teams. First, we have to define that term and differentiate it from “TARDIS team”. Then we can get into the meat of the discussion–which companions work really really well together? Who can’t you think of without their counterpart?
Let us know your favorite companion teams in the comments!
This week we’re talking about the “kids” in the TARDIS. Join Deb, Erika, Katrina, and Lynne as we talk about the Doctor as a father figure and orphans in the TARDIS. So how does the Doctor do as a parental unit? Is he a trustworthy adult-type? Or as childish as the youngsters he takes in? Or does it vary by era? (Spoiler: it varies!) And as this is the year of the companion, we spend a good amount of time chatting about the young(ish) orphans themselves.
What do you think of the-Doctor-as-parent and the young’uns who travel with him? Let us know in the comments!
This week’s topic is one we’ve touched on a bit, but we thought it deserved its own episode. Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we talk about companions who were also soldiers (or soldierey or soldier-adjacent). Naturally, there’s a lot of UNIT talk, but there are more soldier-companions than you might think.
What do you think of the military companions? And how do you feel about the Doctor’s ever-evolving reaction to soldiers? Let us know in the comments!
They may not be the most unloved companions, but they’re the ones you, the listeners, didn’t want to hear us talk about. Join Deb, Erika, and Lynne as we discuss the companions in the bottom 1.5% of our listener poll. Why do we think these companions ended up here? Do they belong? Or do we think some of these characters should be rated higher?
Did you vote in the poll? If so, did you vote for these companions? If not, why not? If so, why? Let us know in the comments!
Yes, we assure you this really is episode 74. Pay no attention to the wildly inaccurate introduction claiming we’ve gotten further than we have. This is what happens when Deb leaves us alone. Join Erika, Liz, and Tansy as we try to cope without our moderating maven. And what are we discussing? We stick to our 2015 theme of companions, but we take it in a different direction this week. We’re talking about the companions of a different Time Lord. Yep, from Delgado to Gomez, we’re covering the Master’s (Missy’s) companions! Why does the Master always seem to have lackeys assisting him? We discover the Master’s reasons for picking up strays aren’t always that different from the Doctor’s, though his methods of acquiring these “helpers” is usually quite different.
What do you think of the Master’s companions? Let us know in the comments!
